Subsea Technology & Rentals Ltd (STR); global specialists in the design, production and rental of advanced subsea technology for the offshore industry announce the purchase of Tritech’s latest Gemini 720is Multibeam Imaging Sonar at the launch of this year’s Ocean Business Exhibition. This recent purchase represents a further investment in next generation technology from STR as they continue to increase their equipment rental inventory.

Scott McLay, Sales Director at Tritech said: “We have worked closely with STR for many years so are thrilled to see the company continuing to invest in more of the latest Tritech products for its rental pool. Our Gemini 720is multibeam sonar provides real-time, crisp imagery for applications including obstacle avoidance and target detection and offers significant enhancements over the earlier Gemini 720i.”

With a 120 degree field of view (10 degree tilt) and a fast update rate of 30Hz, the Gemini 720is sonar is ideal for poor visibility environments. Gemini 720is features a 720-kHz operating frequency and an integrated sound velocity sensor to assist in providing the sharpest image possible, with accurate ranging. Redesigned for ease of installation onto a variety of ROVs, AUVs and other underwater platforms, the Gemini 720is operates through Ethernet or VDSL communications. Due to the compact size, the Gemini 720is sonar can also be deployed via a pole-mount assembly (customer supplied).

Neil Jackson, Sales and Operations Manager at STR commented on their recent purchase: “As providers of specialist marine equipment and supporters of Tritech products we had no hesitation in purchasing the Gemini 720is to support our customers’ operations worldwide. STR are keen to develop alliances with well-established manufacturers like Tritech and this latest investment will be a welcome addition to our growing inventory of high quality subsea equipment.”

Subsea Technology & Rentals Ltd (STR); global specialists in the design, production and rental of advanced subsea technology for the offshore industry are pleased to announce the purchase of a 106G Series Submersible GPS from Applied Acoustic Engineering Limited. This recent purchase represents a further investment in advanced technology from STR as they continue to increase their equipment rental inventory.

The 106G is an additional GPS receiver designed to survive immersion that complements the operation of a nearby standard subsea positioning beacon.

This arrangement is suited to coastal construction tasks where submersible vehicles may periodically break the surface.

Whilst submerged, positioning data is provided by a standard positioning beacon but once the vehicle breaks the surface the 106G takes over to provide the information required, typically cabled to the vessel based positioning system via the vehicle umbilical.

“Our Specialist Engineering Department designed this new 106G receiver to meet some customer specific requirements when working in the near shore environment,” explained Applied Acoustics’ Technical Manager, Neil MacDonald, “so we’re really pleased that STR has chosen to add this product to its equipment pool and make it available to the wider industry sector.”

Neil Jackson, Sales and Operations Manager at STR commented on their recent purchase: “STR are keen to develop alliances with well-established manufacturers like Applied Acoustics and this latest investment will enable us to offer cost effective, high quality GPS solutions to support our customers’ operations.”

Subsea Technology & Rentals Ltd (STR) have enhanced their reputation as specialists in developing high quality bespoke technology for the subsea industry with the design and manufacture of a bespoke cabling solution for the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS).

STR were approached by CEFAS to produce a cable design to simplify their more complex operations and expand the capabilities of their recently purchased STR SeaSpyder Telemetry Camera System.

The cabling solution was designed in-house at STR to enable the SeaSpyder Telemetry System & fibreoptic mux to directly interface with 6 off STR underwater LEDs, an array of laser pointers and line generators, altimeter and depth compass. Together with the cables for Aris sonar, and the STR SeaSpectrumIP camera, this provided CEFAS with a fully mountable video inspection system for their sled.

Brian Patterson, Cable Moulding Supervisor at STR said: “At STR we specialise in working with our clients to develop and manufacture creative solutions to help overcome their more complex operational needs. Our team of technicians are experienced in designing and manufacturing cabling solutions for unique applications for clients across all sectors of the industry, no matter how challenging!”

Subsea Technology and Rentals Ltd (STR), has increased its portfolio of specialist rental equipment with the acquisition of EdgeTech’s 6205, an enhanced and fully swath bathymetry and dual frequency side scan sonar system which utilises next generation bathymetric technology.

The 6205, a Multi-Phase Echo Sounder (MPES) produces real-time, high resolution, three dimensional (3D) maps of the seafloor while providing co-registered simultaneous dual frequency side scan imagery. The 6205 uses ten receive element transducers and one discrete transmit element. The high number of channels enables superior rejection of multipath effects, reverberation and acoustic noise commonly encountered in the shallow water survey environment.

Utilising EdgeTech’s Full Spectrum® technology, the 6205 exceeds IHO SP-44, NOAA and USACE specifications for feature detection and bathymetric point data uncertainty. Near shore and shallow water hydrographic surveys are completed faster and safer utilising the 6205 due to the wide swath (over 200º view angle), which is typically more than three times that of existing sonars that rely solely on beam forming techniques.

The 6205 utilises EdgeTech’s latest electronics and arrays resulting in an extremely lightweight, modular design required for shallow water applications and vessels of opportunity.

The standard configuration for the 6205 includes an integrated sound velocity sensor and interfaces with standard GPS, MRU, SVP, CTD, Altimeters and Gyros. The 6205 interfaces to most 3rd party acquisition and processing software as well.

Tom Hiller, Director, International Business for EdgeTech, commented “The 6205 has proven performance in surveys worldwide, and we are very pleased that the latest generation of EdgeTech bathymetric technology is now available to STR’s customers for rental. This enables more projects to take advantage of the sonar capabilities and the enhanced support that STR can provide.”

Neil Jackson, Sales and Operations Manager at STR, commented on expanding their product inventory: “Our customers already benefit from the widest range of EdgeTech products available in our rental pool and this new addition will only strengthen our ability to supply our customers with marketing leading technology. At STR we are keen to work with innovative manufacturers of high quality products and as UK sales and service agents for EdgeTech we have complete confidence that this new system will prove popular with our customers worldwide.”
