STR’s reputation as specialists in developing high quality technology for the subsea industry will be enhanced as they set to release their new SeaGamma Flooded Member Detection System at Subsea Expo Exhibition 2017.
Gamma Flooded Member Detection has long been the method of choice for the inspection and monitoring of subsea structural members for the detection of water ingress. FMD inspection technique can also be applied to locating blockages in pipelines as a result of pigging or silt build up.
With climate change warming our coastal waters, progressive marine growth means traditional methods of NDT inspection can be costly and inefficient. The STR SeaGamma FMD standard system has been designed from the ground upwards to rapidly survey components up to 2m diameter from an inspection or work class ROV and requires no marine growth removal to deliver results.
Neil Jackson, Sales and Operations Manager at STR said: “SeaGamma FMD system has been designed with substantial input from industry inspection experts and is expected to be the method of choice for the inspection and monitoring of subsea components for the detection of water ingress.”

Subsea Technology & Rentals Ltd (STR); global specialists in the design, production and rental of advanced subsea technology for the offshore industry announce the purchase of Tritech’s latest Gemini 720is Multibeam Imaging Sonar at the launch of this year’s Ocean Business Exhibition. This recent purchase represents a further investment in next generation technology from STR as they continue to increase their equipment rental inventory.
Scott McLay, Sales Director at Tritech said: “We have worked closely with STR for many years so are thrilled to see the company continuing to invest in more of the latest Tritech products for its rental pool. Our Gemini 720is multibeam sonar provides real-time, crisp imagery for applications including obstacle avoidance and target detection and offers significant enhancements over the earlier Gemini 720i.”
With a 120 degree field of view (10 degree tilt) and a fast update rate of 30Hz, the Gemini 720is sonar is ideal for poor visibility environments. Gemini 720is features a 720-kHz operating frequency and an integrated sound velocity sensor to assist in providing the sharpest image possible, with accurate ranging. Redesigned for ease of installation onto a variety of ROVs, AUVs and other underwater platforms, the Gemini 720is operates through Ethernet or VDSL communications. Due to the compact size, the Gemini 720is sonar can also be deployed via a pole-mount assembly (customer supplied).
Neil Jackson, Sales and Operations Manager at STR commented on their recent purchase: “As providers of specialist marine equipment and supporters of Tritech products we had no hesitation in purchasing the Gemini 720is to support our customers’ operations worldwide. STR are keen to develop alliances with well-established manufacturers like Tritech and this latest investment will be a welcome addition to our growing inventory of high quality subsea equipment.”
