Subsea Technology & Rentals Ltd (STR), a specialist in the design, production and rental of advanced subsea technology are delighted to announce it has formed a new partnership with CDI, an elite International Pipeline Pig Tracking, Signalling and Communications Equipment Company.
This agreement will provide STR’s global customer base with access to CDI’s pipeline pig locating, tracking, and passage detection equipment. Coinciding with STR’s recent expansion into Aberdeen, this will allow STR to provide this this offering, along with its full suite of technology and support services to its continuously evolving North Sea clientele.
Scott Johnstone, Managing Director, STR said, “Following our recent expansion into Aberdeen, we are pleased to announce our strategic partnership with CDI. This relationship was formed in Houston at OTC in May 2017, in which STR exhibited as part of Scottish Development International on the Scottish Pavilion. CDI, who are based in Oklahoma, USA, were looking to partner with a Scottish based organisation and visited the Scottish Pavilion to introduce themselves to STR”.
Following OTC 2017, CDI visited STR’s UK headquarters in Great Yarmouth to meet the team and provide training on its equipment before travelling to Aberdeen to visit STR’s newly opened offices and attend Offshore Europe.
Scott Johnstone, Managing Director, STR said: “We firmly believe that our partnership with CDI demonstrates the importance of continuing to market our organisation and attending elite trade shows as part of the Scottish Pavilion in the current market conditions. We are excited to work CDI, who are a well-established organisation that come with a wealth of experience”.
Ewen Cameron, Head of Trade and Investment for Energy at Scottish Development International, said: “This is a fantastic outcome for STR and is testament to the strength and international profile of the Scottish delegation at OTC, which was a great event by all accounts. That we were able to attract high calibre US companies to the Scotland Pavilion to meet with our companies really underlines the value of taking part in these key industry events in overseas markets.
“All credit to the management team at STR; the fact that they quickly followed up introductory meetings to agree a deal with CDI within only a few months will, I’m sure, have played a big part in securing this result.
“These shows play a key role in helping Scottish companies to broaden their horizons by providing a ‘safe environment’ to explore overseas markets and make valuable international connections. So I would encourage any company considering international trade to get in touch to find out about how we can support them.”

Subsea Technology & Rentals Ltd (STR); global specialists in the design, production and rental of advanced subsea technology for the offshore industry continue to grow their rental equipment inventory with the addition of the new automated sound
velocity profiling system developed by Teledyne Oceanscience using Valeport’s RapidSV Profiler.
Teledyne’s rapidCAST and Valeport’s SVT Probe, purchased during the recent Ocean Business exhibition in Southampton, will be the latest products to join STR’s diverse range of sensor deployment and handling systems.
The rapidCAST System has the ability to collect and transmit survey data without having to recover the probe on board at the end of each cast making any profiling exercise far more efficient. It also improves the targeting accuracy of probes as the need for conducting cable is removed.
The rapidCAST uses the latest Valeport rapidSV profiler with Bluetooth wireless telemetry to automatically upload each SV profile to the survey PC on the completion of each cast, without the need for the probe to be recovered onboard. As the probe nears the ship, the Bluetooth antenna is activated and the data uploaded with the probe immediately ready for the next cast.
Neil Jackson, Sales and Operations Manager at STR, commented: “These latest acquisitions are a welcome addition to our extensive inventory of rental equipment enabling us to offer our customers the very latest technology to support their business operations. Neptune Marine Services will be the first customers to use this product on their upcoming project in Australia.”
