The Saturn fibre optic gyrocompass capitalises on more than a century’s experience in marine navigation. Teledyne TSS’ own experienced and innovative engineering team has combined the latest solid state technologies and calibration techniques to offer a user-friendly, highly accurate and cost-effective navigation solution for demanding marine environments.
The Saturn product range has been designed by TSS to provide a range of versatile attitude and heading reference, and inertial navigation systems for both surface and subsea applications. The lightweight, compact and highly reliable units have no moving parts and are maintenance free, making them ideal for all sizes of surface vessel and subsea vehicle.
Applications for the Saturn product range include navigation for fast ferries and yachts; subsea positioning for autonomous underwater, and remotely operated vehicles; attitude and heading references for dynamically positioned platforms; full attitude data for hydrographic survey vessels and much, much more.

The Predator and Gremlin range of dredgers will become the latest offering from STR as they continue to invest in products and services that add value and complement their diverse spectrum of subsea and marine technology.
The range of STS dredgers have been designed and built to the highest standards by experienced engineers and fabricators. Using cutting edge fluid dynamic technology the dredgers are the most efficient in the current market. The range of unique dredgers are easy to use, both by Remotely Operated Vehicles and divers. Subsea Technology & Rentals Ltd (STR), a specialist in the design, production and rental of advanced subsea technology who are based in Aberdeen and Great Yarmouth held an appeal amongst its workforce to donate to the Great Yarmouth Salvation Army ‘Toys and Tins Appeal’.
Ka Henney-Cant, Sales and Business Development Executive, STR said, “STR have decided this year, rather than buying Christmas Gifts for its clients to thank them for their valued business, that we would give back to the local community and donate the money we would have spent on client gifts to the Great Yarmouth Salvation Army for its foodbank to feed people over the festive time. Along with the organisations donation which was used to buy food and toys, the team at STR donated clothing for all ages.
Great Yarmouth has been affected by the industry recession and for those with families to provide for, Christmas can be a difficult time. We hope that our donations can make a difference to those affected and brighten the festive period to those who might otherwise go without at Christmas”
Following two weeks of donations from our team and their families, STR decorated one of its Trucks and delivered the gifts to the Salvation Army on Friday 15th December.

Subsea Technology and Rentals Ltd (STR) have recently boosted its equipment inventory with the purchase of a Sonardyne Mini-Ranger 2 Ultra-Short Baseline (USBL) underwater positioning system.
Quick to install and simple to use, Mini-Ranger 2 has the ability to simultaneously and precisely track up to 10 subsea targets (e.g. divers, ROVs and structures) over ranges of up to 995 metres, extendable to 4,000 metres.
These features mean that Mini-Ranger 2 is ideal for nearshore operations on small survey vessels and construction barges that need survey grade positioning performance without the cost and complexity of a deep water USBL solution.

Subsea Technology and Rentals (STR), a multi-disciplinary technology company specialising in the design, production and rental of innovative marine survey equipment for the subsea construction, geophysical, ROV inspection and environmental sectors, unveils its new subsea rechargeable battery pack (SeaCell) and charger system (SeaCharge) to complement their existing portfolio of specialist equipment.
Ahead of this exciting launch, the research and development team at STR’s Head Office in Great Yarmouth have invested in a substantial development programme to generate a battery pack and charger capable of delivering a reliable, high power solution for underwater systems.
The STR battery pack employs environmentally acceptable NiMH technology and takes full advantage of Microcontroller technology to ensure reliable performance throughout the service life of the pack. The system incorporates voltage, temperature and charge/discharge current monitoring. The battery pack also includes output overload, short circuit and over-discharge protection.
The charger system is fully automatic and has been designed to yield optimal performance and reliability from the battery pack. The system features battery refresh, two-stage bulk charging and pulsed trickle charging to extend battery life.
The subsea battery pack is housed in a 3000m depth rated stainless steel housing. Stainless steel has been chosen to take full advantage of its excellent corrosion resistance.
The battery and charger are shipped in a custom ruggedized waterproof case and comes complete with cables and manual.
